The Client

Shelby Hurst is a lifestyle photographer with a passion for capturing families, kids, and candid everyday moments. His photography is warm, natural, and light-filled—designed to make people feel comfortable and seen. As he relaunched his photography business, Shelby knew he needed a brand identity that felt just as genuine and approachable as he is.


The Challenge

While Shelby had some branding in the past, it lacked consistency. As he reopened his business, he wanted to create something cohesive and lasting—something that would represent him well across social platforms and speak to the heart of his work.


The Creative process

At first, Shelby wanted a brand that was fun, funky, and bubbly—just like his personality. We started with bold, playful visuals and bright concepts. But once he saw them in action, he realized he wanted to shift toward something more calm, welcoming, and timeless.


So, we pivoted.


We went back to the drawing board with a focus on soft earth tones, light and airy elements, and an overall sense of comfort and simplicity. In a fun twist of fate, we found a script font called Shelby that fit the tone and happened to share his name—a perfect fit that felt meant to be.

The mini brand

Once the logo was finalized, we delivered a mini branding system, including:

  • Logo Variations for different use cases

  • Custom Color Palettes

  • Supporting pattern options

This process of a mini brand gives our clients the opportunity to let us know if we are on par with their thought process and ideas before diving into a full brand guide.
